Statements made by Robert Ridley

Conservative tax-fighting champion

Cherokee County ranks 3rd in the state for the lowest taxes to include property taxes and sales taxes.  That is quite an achievement when you consider the services and amenities we receive.

D.O.G.E. Cherokee County

Each year, the commissioners collaborate with department heads to decrease expenses wherever possible.  Harry Johnston, our chairman, is a retired CPA who reviews every line item in the budget to find potential savings.

Prioritizing Public Safety

Our commissioners prioritize public safety and must continue to do so.

Preserving & Protecting Cherokee County

Robert's comments show that he supports responsible growth, even though he doesn't mention following the land use plan.

Tackling Traffic & Improving Infrastructure

He states that he will work with GDOT to alleviate traffic and improve infrastructure using state funds.  The investment GDOT plans to make in the next few years is significant.  GDOT has committed to projects in Cherokee of hundreds of millions of dollars.  It's unlikely that they will approve any extra projects that haven't already been included in the transportation plan.  However, it’s possible to work with GDOT to move projects ahead of the projected date by working with GDOT.  Several projects are underway, including the widening of Highway 20 to 6 lanes from I-575 to Forsyth County, Ball Ground Round-A-Bout, Bells Ferry Widening and Bridge Replacement, and other road improvements. Several projects are scheduled to begin soon for Highway 140, from Riverstone Parkway to Bartow County.
